This program will explore two aspects of the impact of climate change on the built environment– the call to reduce carbon emissions and the need for buildings to be designed to withstand the changing environment caused by climate change. Minnesota’s Climate Action Framework includes goals associated with both: a goal of improving building codes and standards so that all new commercial and large multi-family buildings produce net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2036 and a goal of adopting provisions in construction and remodeling codes that create resilient design standards.

The CRE industry in Minnesota is stepping up to meet both the reduction and resilience challenges through innovations in design, materials usage and incorporation of sustainability principals in new and existing construction. At the same time, real estate and design professionals are figuring out ways to use climate data to build resiliency into buildings and governments are looking at relevant codes to ensure the need for climate resiliency is taken into account in designing and constructing buildings. Join us to learn more!
